Part of operating our Texas honey bee ranch involves wildlife management for other animals. This includes serving as a deer sanctuary. The picture above is from one of our security cameras we use to track wildlife for their protection and census counts.
- We have a solar-powered deer feeder that daily dispenses pellets.
- For water, the deer drink from both a seasonal creek and the ranch pond.
- And we supplement the deer’s food with a mineral lick (a.k.a. salt lick).
We have no plans to permit deer hunting on the property. In fact, we actively protect the deer by going after their predators (e.g., coyotes).
Unfortunately, life isn’t a Disney movie. So nature can be cruel sometimes. However, we do our best to protect the deer that choose to roam Hokkaido Ranch.
