Hokkaido Ranch

Where Texas History Meets Family Tradition

Nestled among the rolling hills near Forestburg, Texas, Hokkaido Ranch is a place where history, nature, and family come together. Established by the Young Family from a portion of a larger ranch originally settled by German pioneers in the 1800s, the ranch remains surrounded by the descendants of those early settlers, who continue to be our neighbors today.

This land has witnessed generations of Texas history. Long before fences marked the prairie, Comanche and Kiowa hunters traveled these hills on horseback. From nearby Devil’s Backbone, they could watch travelers and settlers making their way into the region. Later, great herds of cattle stirred up clouds of dust as cowboys pushed them north toward the legendary Chisholm Trail. Along the very road that now borders the ranch, Wells Fargo stagecoaches once rattled across the countryside, carrying passengers, mail, and supplies through the frontier.

While much has changed since those early days, the spirit of the land remains.

A Family Paradise in the Texas Countryside

Today, Hokkaido Ranch serves as a cherished retreat for the Young Family and their extended family. It is a place where three adventurous boys can explore the outdoors, where families gather around campfires, where children discover wildlife up close, and where lasting memories are made beneath expansive Texas skies.

Life at the ranch moves at a gentler pace. Mornings begin with birdsong, evenings bring spectacular sunsets, and every season offers new opportunities to experience the beauty of nature.

A Haven for Wildlife and Pollinators

Stewardship of the land is at the heart of everything we do at Hokkaido Ranch.

Instead of traditional cattle operations, our pastures have been transformed into vibrant fields of bee-friendly wildflowers that support pollinators and provide colorful blooms throughout most of the year. These fields are home to our commercial apiary, where 20 active beehives produce award-winning honey while helping sustain the surrounding ecosystem.

Our commitment to conservation extends throughout the property. Native woods and a large pond are carefully protected through an active wildlife management program designed to preserve habitat and encourage healthy wildlife populations.

Visitors may spot whitetail deer grazing at dawn, watch fish ripple across the pond, or enjoy the antics of local raccoons that have become famous for helping themselves to the fish feeder whenever the opportunity arises. Wildlife flourishes here because it is welcomed, protected, and respected.

Rooted in the Past, Focused on the Future

At Hokkaido Ranch, we believe that the best places tell a story. Our story begins with pioneering settlers, continues through generations of Texas ranching heritage, and grows today through a commitment to family, conservation, and responsible stewardship of the land.

Whether exploring wildflower meadows, enjoying the peaceful pond, tasting fresh local honey, or simply gathering with loved ones, every visit offers a chance to reconnect with nature and experience a small piece of authentic Texas heritage.

Hokkaido Ranch is more than a ranch. It’s a place where family traditions are created, nature is celebrated, and the spirit of Texas lives on.
